Newbury Plantation, MA was settled and incorporated in 1635.

William Moulton was born in England in 1617. On April 11, 1637, at twenty years old he came from Ormsby, Norfolk County, England and landed at Newbury, Massachusetts, near the Merrimac River. He came with Robert Page and his family as a servant. They all lived in Newbury for about a year before moving to Winnacunnett, now Hampton, NH in 1639 settling near John and Thomas Moulton (William's brothers). William married Robert Page' s daughter, Margaret in about 1651. He obtained ten acres of land and was made a freeman on October 3, 1654. He died on April 18, 1664.
William and Margaret had eight children:
1) Joseph - born 1647, married Bethyah Swayne
2) Benjamin - born 1648, married Hannah Wall, died March 28, 1728
3) Hannah - born February 15, 1652, married Josiah Sanborn, died November 6, 1687
4) Mary - born 1654, died July 27, 1664
5) Sarah - born December 17, 1656, married Jonathan Haines December 30, 1674 of Newbury
6) Ruth - born May 7, 1659, married Richard Sanborn, died May 3, 1685
7) Robert - born November 8, 1661, married Lucy Smith, died October 11, 1732
8) William - born May 25, 1664, married Abigail Webster, died October, 1732

William Moulton, married Abigail Webster on May 27, 1685. She died July 24, 1723. He was a young man of energy and returned to Moulton Hill (as it was called) in Newbury in 1683. He was a weaver, inn holder, trader and merchant. He built a house at the foot of the hill for him and his family and opened a "Blacksmith & Whitesmith" shop, making silver buckles and ornaments. On a corner timber of the house was the Moulton Coat of Arms. His home was occupied by seven generations of Moultons for two hundred years.

Joseph Moulton was born November 25, 1694. He married Mary Noyes on July 25, 1717. He was a blacksmith and a goldsmith and moved to Newburyport started the "Goldsmith Moultons". He made gold beads that the wealthier local ladies wore and over the years made soup ladels, hollow-ware, spoons and jewelry.
Joseph and Mary had ten children (all born in Newbury, MA):
1) Samuel - born May 15, 1718, married Mary Ordway November 29, 1743, he died 1756
2) William - born July 12, 1720, married Lydia Greenleaf September 16, 1742, he died 1793

Brothers Cutting and Samuel Moulton fought in the Revolutionary War and the trenches at Bunker Hill. After the close of the war they headed for the northern wilderness
and settled in Parsonsfield, Maine in about 1784.
