Dr. John Fairfield Moulton

Dr. John Fairfield Moulton - was born in Parsonsfield, ME on April 11, 1850 and died in Limington, ME on April 14, 1911. He attended Limerick Academy and Parsonsfield Seminary and studied medicine with Dr. Moses E. Sweat. John attended two courses of lectures at Bowdoin College and graduated from Long Island College Hospital, New York, in 1874. On February 7, 1874 he married Martha Parsons and in August they moved to Durham, NH, where he began his practice. From there, they moved to Gilmanton Iron Works the following year and in July, 1876 he moved to Limington where he remained. Dr. Moulton had a large field of practice in Limington. He was looked upon as an excellent physician and well respected as a man who took a great interest in the town affairs. He also took a great interest in agriculture and had one of the best farms in the southern part of the state, which he carried on with up to date methods. This information was found in the History of Limington, Maine, 1668 - 1900, written by Robert L. Taylor.
John and Martha had seven children, all born in Parsonsfield:

2) Arthur Bertram (Dr.) - born March 19, 1875, married Ena A. Maxim born 1877 died 1970, he died 1928
3) Frank Augustus - born April 26, 1876
4) Ernest C. - born November, 1877
5) Alma Cousins (Family Tree) - born April 29, 1883, married William F. Brunk, she died January 18, 1948
6) John Jr. (Dr.) - born 1890
7) Stephen Parsons (Family Tree) - born Aug 28, 1891, married Fannie Brunk Jun 30, 1915, he died Aug 26, 1955

Dr. John F. Moulton bought the Simon Moody House (above) with several acres of land in Limington, ME. He moved there in July, 1876. He built the house below on the same property and moved into it, along with his practice. The house was constructed from two buildings that were moved from Hiram, ME. Upon the death of Dr. Moulton in 1911, Alma inherited the second house (below). Dr. Moulton's only daughter, Alma (Moulton-Brunk) and her family owned the Simon Moody house when it burned in 1927. My father recalled to me when the house burned and how scary it was as an eight year old.

This plaque was placed on the old Moulton house sometime before 2009. The house was sold out of the family in 1985 and has been sold four times since then and was left in grave condition.
